Analyzing which regulations could be eliminated or streamlined has been the mission of Karl Wadensten, president of VIBCO Vibrators in Richmond, in his role as a member of the board of directors for the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation. The EDC hired Leslie Taito to take charge of the initiative, and she’s soon to move into the state’s new Office of Management and Budget , which will coordinate the effort.
Wadensten, who attended Chafee’s announcement, is a strong proponent of the business model known as “lean manufacturing,” an approach to identify and eliminate waste. He hailed the quicker analysis of the state’s regulations.
“It’s an extremely good beginning point,” he said. “If we can look at this objectively and start working on this — it will take years and years, but at least they have a starting point and a place to get going to move the doggone needle.”
